Quad Safari in Belek: No Driving Licence Needed — Our Rule and the Reason Behind It

No, a driving licence is not needed for our Belek quad safari, and the reason matters: the route is a private off-road course, not a public road, so it is not judged like road driving. The rest of the rule is just as plain. The person at the controls must be 16 or over, and every driver takes a compulsory test ride before the tour starts. Whoever completes that test ride successfully drives their own machine for the rest of the safari; whoever does not, or would simply rather not, rides along as a passenger for half the driver's price. We describe our own course rule on this page and make no claim about Turkish traffic law. If your situation is unusual, message us on WhatsApp before you reserve and you will get a straight answer for your date.

No licence needed — and here is exactly why

Three search results, three different answers: that is usually what brings people to this page, and none of those answers came from the company that would actually put you on the machine. So here is ours in one line. On a Belek quad safari with Atalay Tour no driving licence is needed, because the route is a private off-road course rather than a public road.

The reason is not decoration, it is the whole basis of the rule. Following a marked trail through forest tracks, open terrain and shallow river sections on a closed course is not the same activity as driving on a public road, and we do not treat it as one. What stands in place of a licence is not nothing, either: a safety briefing that everybody attends, and a compulsory test ride that every intended driver has to complete before the group leaves the base.

Who is allowed to drive

The person at the controls must be 16 or over. That includes 16- and 17-year-olds, who drive their own machine like anyone else once they have passed the test ride. Drivers carry photo identification on the tour day so our team can confirm that age at the base. The document is an age check and nothing more — nobody is asked to show a driving licence, on the quad or on the buggy.

Passengers are not checked that way, because they are not driving. On the quad a passenger rides from 8 years old; in the buggy a passenger can be younger when an adult is alongside, and our full age rules live on their own page. Both machines seat two, so a couple shares one and a group of four books two. If you would like to know in advance how your group will split across the machines, send us the ages on WhatsApp and we will map it out before the day, leaving only the briefing and the test ride for the base.

  • No driving licence required — this is an off-road course, not a public road
  • Driver: 16 years or over, on the quad and on the buggy alike
  • Compulsory test ride before the tour; passing it is what puts you at the controls
  • Photo ID carried on the day so we can confirm the driver's age
  • Everyone attends the safety briefing, drivers and passengers alike
  • One passenger per driver — both machines seat two people

The compulsory test ride is the real gate

Before anyone leaves the base the guide walks through the controls, the braking, the hand signals and the way a group moves along a trail. Then every intended driver takes the test ride on flat ground. It is compulsory, and it is the point at which the day is decided: no test ride, no machine of your own.

That ride is a genuine check rather than a warm-up lap, and it is not a formality — not everybody passes it, which is precisely why it exists. Whoever handles the machine confidently drives their own for the rest of the safari. Whoever does not is placed in the passenger seat at half price, and so is anyone who tries it and decides the trail is not for them. Nobody is talked onto the controls and nobody is talked off them. The tour is built around first-timers who have never touched a quad rather than around riders who arrive with experience, which is exactly why the briefing and the test ride come before the trail and not after it.

Not driving? The seat behind costs half

Ending up as a passenger — by choice or because the test ride did not go your way — does not cost you the day and does not cost you the driver price. The person at the controls pays the per-person price for the tour they chose, and anyone riding along pays exactly half. On the quad that means €15 on the Short Tour and €19 on the Long Tour, against €30 and €38 for the driver. On the buggy the passenger pays €17.50 short and €21.50 long, against €35 and €43.

There is no separate child price on either tour. The half-price passenger fare is the same figure for a teenager and for an adult who simply prefers the seat behind,. Nobody rides free: everyone taking part has a paid seat. Each driver takes one passenger, so a couple shares a single machine and a family of four books two.

The buggy safari runs on the same rule

The buggy safari follows identical logic. It is a two-seater with a wheel, pedals and belts instead of handlebars, and plenty of guests find it the less intimidating of the two machines. No licence is needed for it either, for the same reason: it stays on the same off-road course. The driver must be 16 or over, the test ride is just as compulsory, and a passenger can be younger than on the quad when an adult is alongside.

If someone in your group is close to the age line, or you are weighing up which machine suits them better, send us their age on WhatsApp and you will get a real answer for your date instead of a guess dressed up as policy.

What we describe here, and what we will not claim

One boundary we keep deliberately: everything on this page is our own course rule. We do not tell you what Turkish traffic law says, what permits may exist or what any authority requires, because that is not ours to state and a tour page is the wrong place to read it. What we do state, and stand behind, is what happens at our base in the Aspendos countryside: no licence is asked for, the driver age is checked at 16, and the test ride decides who drives.

We work in English, German, Russian and Polish, and the questions guests send before travelling are practical rather than theoretical — who in our group can drive, what should we bring, what happens if someone cannot manage the machine. Those we answer on WhatsApp straight away, for your date, with the ages in front of us. Liability insurance for the activity is included in the tour price; what your own travel policy does or does not cover is a question for your insurer rather than for a tour page.

What to bring on the day

Beyond photo ID for anyone who intends to drive, the packing list is short and mostly about dust. The route runs through forest tracks, open off-road terrain and shallow river sections, so you will not come back clean, and the clothes you wear should be ones you do not care about.

Protective goggles are not included in either tour. They are sold on site as an optional extra, and guests who wear contact lenses usually take a pair. Photo and video service, drinks and snacks at the rest stop and gratuities also sit outside the tour price, so a little cash in a zipped pocket is sensible.

  • Photo ID for everyone who intends to drive — an age check, not a licence
  • Old or comfortable clothes you do not mind ruining
  • Closed shoes — flip-flops and slippers are not suitable
  • A change of clothes for the ride back to the hotel
  • Sunscreen and water
  • A bandana or scarf for the dust; helmet is provided

Reserve free, and send us the awkward cases first

Nothing in our booking process asks you to commit before you are sure. Reservations are free: no prepayment, no card details taken online, and you pay in euros on the day of the tour. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, and the pickup time itself is confirmed after booking rather than promised in advance. Round-trip hotel pickup and drop-off is included in the price along the coast we serve — Belek and Kadriye, Boğazkent, Lara, Kundu, Antalya, Muratpaşa and Konyaaltı, and Side, Manavgat, Evrenseki, Kumköy, Çolaklı, Gündoğdu and Kızılot — with no transfer surcharge, and the whole programme takes roughly 4 to 4.5 hours door to door once the transfer, the briefing, the test ride, the ride and the drive back are counted.

If your hotel sits outside those regions, ask us on WhatsApp before you reserve rather than assuming — we will tell you honestly whether we can collect you. And none of the cases below needs to become a problem at the base: one line before your date removes the whole risk. Send it to +90 536 603 75 84 and the answer comes from the people who run the tour rather than from a booking platform's help centre.

  • “My son turns 16 the week we travel” — give us the date; from 16 he drives his own machine if he passes the test ride.
  • “I have never ridden anything like this” — that is the normal case here, and the test ride is where you find out.
  • “What if I try the test ride and cannot manage it?” — you move to the passenger seat and pay half.
  • “One of us wants to drive and one does not” — that is the standard booking: one driver, one half-price passenger.
  • “I only carry a photo of my passport” — tell us before your date; the check is only there to confirm a driver's age.
  • “Our hotel is in Lara, Antalya or Side” — that pickup is included in the price; only a hotel outside the regions we list needs a question first.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is a driving licence needed for a quad safari in Belek?
No. Our route is a private off-road course rather than a public road, so a driving licence is not needed and we never ask to see one. What we do ask is this: the driver must be 16 or over, and every driver takes a compulsory test ride before the tour starts. Whoever completes it successfully drives their own machine; whoever does not, or would rather not, rides along as a half-price passenger. That is our own course rule — we make no claim about Turkish traffic law, so if your situation is unusual, message us on WhatsApp before you reserve.
What documents should I bring on the tour day?
Photo identification for anyone who intends to drive, carried on the person rather than left at the hotel. It is there so our team can confirm the driver is 16 or over — it is an age check, not a licence check, and no driving licence is asked for. Passengers do not drive, so the check does not apply to them. If you are unsure what to bring, send us a message before your date and we will tell you plainly.
Can foreign visitors drive on your Belek safari?
Yes, and our rule is identical for everyone. No licence is needed, because this is an off-road course and not a public road; the driver must be 16 or over; and the compulsory test ride before the tour decides who takes the controls. The briefing is given in the languages we work in — English, German, Russian and Polish. Anything beyond our own course rule we prefer to answer for you personally on WhatsApp rather than in a paragraph that cannot know your date or your group.
Is an international driving permit part of this?
We do not require one, and we do not require an ordinary licence either, because the safari runs on a private off-road course rather than a public road. What we can tell you with certainty is what happens at our base: drivers are checked as 16 or over, everyone attends the briefing, and the compulsory test ride decides who rides their own machine. We describe our own rule only and make no claim about permits under Turkish law; if that side matters to you personally, ask us on WhatsApp before you book.
What happens if I do not pass the test ride?
You move to the passenger seat and pay half the driver's price. The test ride is a real check and not everybody comes through it — that is exactly what it is for, and a guide who is unsure about someone will say so. Nobody loses the tour over it: the seat behind sees the same river crossings, forest tracks and dust as the seat in front, and the price drops by half.
What if I do not want to drive at all?
Then you ride along and pay half. On the quad a passenger pays €15 on the Short Tour and €19 on the Long Tour; on the buggy it is €17.50 and €21.50. There is no free seat for anyone, whatever their age. Each driver takes one passenger, and you can say so at the base as easily as when you book — nobody is pushed onto the controls.
Is there a minimum driver age for the buggy?
Yes — the driver must be 16 or over on the buggy just as on the quad, and the compulsory test ride applies to both machines. No licence is needed for either, because both stay on the same off-road course. Buggy passengers may be younger when an adult is alongside, while quad passengers ride from 8 years old. If you need a firm answer for a specific person, send us their age on WhatsApp.
Can I decide at the base instead of when I book?
Yes. Because reservations are free and you pay in euros on the tour day, moving from driver to passenger before the ride is simply a matter of telling your guide. The briefing and the compulsory test ride exist precisely so that the decision is made once you have felt the machine, not when you are filling in a form weeks earlier.
